Critical Reflection

Module Learning: This module has been incredibly eventful and helpful to me. At the start of the module, I remembered I had weak presentation skills and thus would often stutter when I am speaking in front of a crowd. With the opportunity that Professor Brad has given to me, I was almost practicing my presentation skills every week and that really helped me improve a lot. The 7C’s of Communication also improved my presentation skills. During the weekly mini presentations, even though I had done this a few times, I was still stuttering a lot while presenting. This makes my presentation very confusing as others are not able to understand what I said. With the help of the 7Cs, my presentation was clear and complete. I did not stutter as much and was able to deliver the presentation smoothly. There will definitely be more presentations to come along the way, be it being studies or work. The 7C’s of Communication is a skill I can hold on to and implement for my future presentations. I

The article “How tech can ease the cleaning industry’s manpower crunch”  (GERMii, 2021) introduces SoftBank Robotics’ “AI – powered commercial floorcare cleaning robot, Whiz”. According to the article  (GERMii, 2021) , Whiz vacuums without external help so that cleaners can prioritize on “human – centric tasks”. It also steers clear of obstacles automatically and provides operators “real – time data and alerts”, allowing them to enjoy serenity with minimum supervision  (GERMii, 2021) . With an award winning BrainOS navigation software, all it takes is a one-time setup from the user and Whiz will remember the route  (Jacky's, 2022) . The built-in sensors and cliff detectors also ensure it avoids obstacles with ease. Whiz also has an effective cleaning system. It can thoroughly clean and cover a carpet area of 500m². With the help of the high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter, it allows it to “capture 99.97% of PM2.5 particles including pollen and dust”  (Jacky's, 2022)

Self-introduction

Dear Professor Blackstone,   I am Goh Bing Zhe from your effective communication class S14 and I hope this self-introduction letter will allow you to know me better. I graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic with a diploma in mechanical engineering in 2020. I have always been curious about the mechanical aspects of appliances since I was a child. I would often disassemble my home appliances such as fans and CD player to observe how the gears are running behind the scenes. I also served in the Singapore Armed Forces as a technician, repairing and servicing armoured vehicles. All these factors brought me to where I am today, pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering with SIT. I would say that one of my communication strengths is being able to get my ideas across to my friends/peers when we are working on something together. Back in polytechnic, there were quite a few group projects to be done. I was able to convey my ideas clearly and we did a great job completing those projects.
